Abstract

This chapter examines AFS alongside the printed output of Samuel S. Wood, director of the House of Refuge

Wood and Mahlon Day were both Quakers and had a near monopoly on the juvenile book trade in New York. Day sold Peter Parley titles in a “New-York books for children” series.
